Christmas Card Outtakes

@ 10 months...

-Started solid foods! I don't really mind the taste of anything so far. Mommy and Daddy set up the camera hoping for a funny face with my first taste. Nope. The only thing that bothers me is the texture, so I still need my mush to be very, well...mushed! The thicker the food, the funnier the faces, until it's too thick...then I gag and throw it all up
-I like to play a game called "Make Changing my Diaper as Difficult as Possible." So far, my favorite moves are: push up with my legs so Mommy accidentally pulls the diaper out from under me, hold on to both of Daddy's hands and fingers as tight as possible, hold my own feet, and roll over and try to reach the lightswitch!
-When Mommy unhooks the straps on my carseat, I try to help her by leaning forward
-Rolled from my back to my stomach!!! This has taken me for.ev.er! I was always so close, but would roll back at the very last second. Then one day something clicked and I just kept doing it over, and over, and over. I couldn't turn it off and kept rolling over in my sleep that first night too! Mommy and Daddy decided that I needed more room, so I get to sleep in my big boy crib now! Also, they can't keep me on my back at night anymore so I get to sleep on my tummy - finally! I often find myself with my head in the corner though...
-For a few days after I learned to roll back to front, I forgot how to roll from front to back! I immediately rolled onto my stomach when I was put down, did a little happy dance, and then panicked because I was stuck that way! Eventually, I figured it all out, and now sometimes I can make it halfway to the front door before Mommy gets back from the potty!
-I'm intrigued with Mommy and Daddy's faces and like to grab their noses and lips. Poor Mommy gets smacked in the face repeatedly while I'm breastfeeding. Good thing I'm cute, or she wouldn't put up with it!
-I love being outside! When we take Wriggie-doggie (that's what I call him) out to potty, I get strapped in a harness facing out. The wind feels so funny when it blows on my face, that I smile and kick my legs like crazy
-Another one of my favorite games is "Naked Baby." It's pretty self-explanatory!
-Small patterns, like the dots on the sofa, are so confusing! I try to pick them up, but they are stuck there! I also try to pull the pictures off of people's shirts but can't seem to grab them right
-I can hold onto a toy while I roll over
-Mommy no longer lets me sit in front of her on the counter while she is making my bottles. Something about taking things out of the basket and throwing them on the floor and kicking over full bottles of milk...
-I'm over the whole rocking me to sleep thing. Just put me down in the crib and I'll do it myself!
-I had my first RSV shot! Yikes! I weighed 14 pounds, 3 ounces on December 1st
-Mommy says plastic bags are a no-no, but they are just SO interesting!
-I've been working on using a sippy cup. I'd much rather pull on Daddy's glass of ice water, or Mommy's mug of tea though. I don't want to lose my bottles yet, so I keep an eye on them whereever they go. And I make sure to fuss if I see they are ready, but then we leave the room to get something Mommy forgot!
-"Drool Monster" is my new nickname
-It turns out that Mommy and Daddy aren't giving me a constant supply of new toys. I've figured out that when I drop a toy, it's not gone forever, but it's just on the floor! Amazing!
-I want to make sure that I am helping Mommy and Daddy whenever I can, so if they are holding something, then I want to hold it too

Thanksgiving

"Solid" food

-Rice cereal was OK. Sweet potatoes are yummy. Avocado is too lumpy and makes me gag. Squash rocks my world and I open my mouth for more before Mommy can even get the spoon back with more!!!
JUST KIDDING!

@ 9 months...

-All that talk about me having a doggy and I FINALLY found him! Apparently he has been here the whole time. He is so soft and fuzzy, that I just want to GRAB him! Mommy's hair is easier to grab though, since she doesn't run away!
-My hair is starting to grow back in! Horray!
-I can blow raspberries, both with my lips and my tongue. What fun!
-Mommy always asks me what I am so patiently waiting for. She thinks it's funny that I sit with my hands clasped in front of me all of the time. And to think that used to be a goal of mine! I do it now without even thinking about it
-After eating, I prefer to be burped while standing. Not Mommy or Daddy. But me. I like to stand while burping!
-I can sit up on my own for about an eighth of a second before falling over. Progress, people!
-If someone is holding me, I can pick toys up off of the floor in front of me
-Mommy and Daddy hung my tiger toy (my favorite) on the mobile on my swing. He flies around up there and then disappears for a second. When he comes back, I smile at him so he will stay, but he usually goes away again, so I frown. Then he comes back and I smile again. And then he goes away and I frown...
-I like to sleep on my side at night
-Mommy doesn't let me watch T.V., but I've figured out how to watch it anyhow...in the reflections on the glass cabinet doors and the fireplace!!
-I can't resist the word, "Hi!" and a big smile from someone! It just makes me smile back!
-I have FEET! Still trying to figure out how to get them in my mouth though. They move away as soon as I get close
-Still working on rolling from back to front
-If I kick both of my feet at the same time in my bassinet, I can make the animals on my swing dance!
-Toys are now things to bang against the floor, the table, the tray on my seats, and occasionally my own face
-I don't like to be tickled. It makes me cry
-Mommy is trained to come back into the room when I cry because I can't see her anymore
-That peek-a-boo game is kind of funny now that I understand what's going on!
-At my nine month check up, I weighed 13 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 24 3/4 inches long. The doctor doesn't use the preemie/adjusted growth charts anymore, which means my height and weight aren't even on the chart!

@ 8 months...

-I can get my pacifier back in my mouth all by myself! It's also fun to chew on the tab on the other side, and then pull it out of my mouth really fast so it makes a popping sound...over...and over...and over again...
-Sometimes I'm allowed to sit in my Bumbo and join Mommy and Daddy at the table. I'm still trying to figure out why they aren't using bottles
-I'm practicing holding my own bottle, but it's still a little too heavy. When it's empty, I can put it in my own mouth, and bite it, and pull it out again. Refer to 'popping sound' above
-My reaching skills are getting better. I even grabbed a toy from Mommy because she was taking too long! And then I wanted to see what was in her bowl (it was ice cream and it was cold on my fingers!) and her cup (no milk, just water). I have to be careful what I grab though, since my body tells me as soon as I grab it, it needs to go straight into my mouth!
-When Mommy or Daddy hold my hands, I can pull myself from sitting to standing. I love standing, and prefer it over sitting!
-If I have to sit, I can do it for a pretty long time, as long as someone is holding my hips
-I love to study people's faces. They always comment on how serious I look. Something about a 'furrowed brow.' Whatever that is
-I haven't quite gotten this whole laughing business down. Mommy says its "making noises while smiling." I try to make "ha ha ha," but it comes out, "huh huh huh."

Seven months & NICU follow up visit

-I have a fairly consistent schedule during the day. I'm more of a catnap person, than a long napper though. I sleep a little bit between every feed still
-I'm starting to reach for things, and when I make contact, it goes right in my mouth!
-I smile at my tiger toy, and "talk" to only my Stinky Face book
-Sitting up is tough, so for now I'm just practicing "mini situps" when I'm reclined
-Not a fan of peek-a-boo yet
-I learned how to squeal! How fun!
-Mommy was taking pictures of me after a bath one night, and I peed all over the bed. Whoops!
-I can roll from front to back (being angry helps!), and I'm trying to go the other way too
-My bedtime routine (bath, eat, swaddle, rock) works like a charm!
-Always trying to get my clothes in my mouth. Its easiest when everything is unbuttoned for a diaper change!
-If I'm eating and Mommy has to switch to another bottle, I have this really pathetic whimper that gets her to hurry up
-The cold weather has forced me out of onsies and into "real" clothes, like jeans and hoodies. We were unprepared for the chilly weather and went on a wild goose chase for pants that fit me! I'm still newborn-sized on the bottom!
-Mommy discontinued the swaddle blanket. Apparently I was grunting for hours each night trying to get out of it! Now I get to wear "feet in" pajamas!
-I stick my tongue out a lot and smile ALL the time!

Watching my first football game!

First time at the beach

LOVE that tiger toy!

-My NICU follow up visit was on 9/29/11. I weighed 12 pounds, 4 ounces and was 24.5 inches long. My head is now in the 75th percentile!! Gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and language skills are ALL developmentally appropriate for my adjusted age of about four months!

Sixth month happenings...

A little late...ok a lot late!

-I discovered my hands. Fascinating!
-My conversations with the ceiling fan are long and LOUD
-I survived clogged tear ducts. Yuck!
-Mommy can't hold me facing in anymore. Facing out is so much more interesting
-I love to lay in the guest bed in the morning and "tell" Mommy all about my dreams
-Grandmommy and I had my first speakerphone conversation
-My favorite sound to make sounds like a trumpet and I repeat it when Mommy or Daddy does it!
-Mommy's eye doctor said I was too little for an eye exam when I went with her to her appointment. Ha! I'm a professional!
-I have witnessed an earthquake and a hurricane
-Mommy has to turn me around so I don't watch TV...but I can see the reflection in the cabinet and the fireplace. Shh! Don't tell her my secret!
-I had my first cold
-When I want to be picked up, I start babbling really loud and sometimes a "ma!" comes out accidentally. Mommy picks me up right away...I'll have to figure out how to say it on purpose...
-I have to have a full body stretch in the morning when I'm unswaddled
-Finally went to the BEACH!
-Starting to drool quite a bit
-I'm trying to sit up
-I started sleeping through the night!

Six month checkup

It's hard to believe a little peanut like me is actually six months old! Where did the time go?? Oh right, I was in that box for most of it. Mommy and I have ventured out of the house a few more times. I've noticed that I have a lot of different ages when people ask how old I am. At first, Mommy explained the whole situation, but people didn't really want to hear all of that. Then she started saying, "6 months." After a few strange looks, she would just say, "11 weeks." Sometimes she even makes up an age!

Today at the doctor, I weighed 10 pounds, 1.5 ounces and was 22 1/4 inches long. On the preemie charts, that's the 14th percentile for both, so I still have some growing to do. My head, however, is approaching the 60th percentile! It's a wonder I can even hold that thing up for a few moments before it starts wobbling. I also had 2 shots, but I don't want to talk about it.

On June 27th, I had my Early Intervention assessment, and I'm proud to share that I am "developmentally appropriate" for my adjusted age. They keep me in the program just in case I ever need direct services, but for now I just keep working on milestones with Mommy and Daddy.

I'm finally able to focus on objects, like my hands, mobiles, and fans, so Mommy is getting short breaks during the day when she can do silly things like shower or eat or go to the bathroom. I take a few unpredictable naps during the day too.

My favorite thing to do is sit and "chat." I've learned to smile and I love to sit on someone's lap facing them and talk back and forth. Mommy tries to get me to do this thing called "Tummy Time," but all I can see is the floor, so I've managed to roll over a few times. She seemed very excited, but then she just rolled me back over! I don't get it!

All of my hair has fallen out except for a strip of really dark, long hair running across the back of my neck, from ear to ear. It's an interesting look, but I'm hoping my new hair grows in quickly!

I have a love-hate relationship with my car seat. Do I like being in it? No. Does the motion of the car put me to sleep? Yes. So I'm happy in the car seat...until the car stops at a light. Good thing there are only about 100 of those on the way to Grandmommy and Grandaddy's house. The last time we went, I slept pretty much the whole time, so I'm learning how to take long car trips.

Since I'm so active (and awake!) during the day, I've decided that I don't need to get up to eat all night, just once or twice. Sometimes, I'll even sleep 6 hours in a row! Mommy seems happier lately too. I wonder if that's a coincidence?

Don't I look mischievious?

Not a big fan of the Bumbo seat

First month home...

Since I've been home, I have:
*not been put down. I'm trying to make up for lost time!
*gained weight (9 pounds, 1 ounce this morning at the pediatrician)
*been taken off of prune juice! We even tried a laxative, but I just needed time to figure things out
*succumbed to the powers of a velcro swaddle blanket. It's Mommy's secret weapon!
*started to lose my hair. I've rubbed the hair off of the back of my head with the help of my amazing neck muscles, but it's also falling out
*graduated from eye exams! I go back in six months for a follow up appointment
*discovered projectile vomiting...and then a prescription for reflux medication
*visited a few of my baby friends and new cousin
*made a date with the folks from Early Intervention
*gone to Delaware! I do NOT enjoy the carseat
*learned to kick myself forward over my Boppy and "stand up" with a lot of support from Mommy or Daddy
*started making "ooo" and "aah" sounds
*rolled from front to back a few times when Mommy propped me on my elbows
*turned five months old!
*taken a trip to Target (lots of people asked Mommy how old I was. It was funny to see their reaction when she said "five months," so eventually she just started saying "six weeks.")
*cried real tears
*smiled at Mommy and Daddy
